I love adventure games and as good as graphics have become for the current games (I have bootcamp and have played demos and games, etc) I still am a fan of adventure games. So finally I decided that I wanted to go back to the days of yore when games were fun and got ScummVM. Download the Mac OS X (universal binary) from here: And try the old lucas arts games. I won't tell you where to get them (that is if you don't have em), but the demos and the CD (even windows version) works fine on OS X on my iMac with Core 2 duo intel.
I have a few of the original CD's, including Monkey Island and The Dig (one of the BEST GAMES EVER MADE!). So yeah, enjoy your Christmas if you're an old school adventure gamer like me. Well that sucks. FoO No no, you misunderstood. You can play either Mac or Windows version with ScummVM, doesn't matter. With DosBox you can only play the DOS versions. Both my Curse of Monkey Island and The Dig are Dos Versions. Escape from Monkey Island is Mac OS 8 (iirc) version.

Also, DOSBox FTW. I can play The Dig just fine, and I can also play ultima underworld. It runs about as fast as it did LONG ago on my 386 SX.
An update on DosBox and ScummVM: If you have old lucasgames, I recommend using ScummVM as its tons more easier to use with little to no hassle in setting up. I've been playing around with DosBox for a while and its a hassle to get some of the games to work, especially if they're multiple CDs involved. This is not the fault of DosBox in anyway. So yeah, Scumm Lucas Games use ScummVM. Use DOSBOX with other games obviously, but if they're multiple CD's, good luck. Am looking for ways to work around multiple CD's with Pandora Directive.

I'm still too new to Mac to tell you how to do this in OSX, but I know exactly how I'd do it on a PC--create disk images of your CDs, then map a drive in DOSBox to a virtual CD-ROM drive (like something provided by Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120%). Then, do the disc switching in the OS, outside of DOSBox--when the game wants disc 2 or disc 3 or whatever, you just unmount the old image and mount the new image to the same mountpoint. DOSBox picks it up, because from DOSBox's point of view, you've just swapped discs.
I'm not sure how to do that in OSX. OSX's Unix mountpoints are different--there's no meta-construct (like a drive letter) to mount to. Instead, you'd have to specify /Volumes/$something, where $something is the name of the disc image, and mounting a new disc image means using a different mountpoint. I suppose you could create images of all your discs and then just map them all to drive letters (mount D: /Volumes/Disc1, mount E: /Volumes/Disc2, mount F: /Volumes/Disc3, and so on) and then just tell the game to use a different drive letter when prompted to insert the second disc.
