Other Related Subreddits ** **. Based on what I've observed at my campus, people who have Macs have them because they were the cool thing to have and almost everyone has them. Overall, the choice between a Mac or PC should be based on you major. In my opinion, if you are doing things with music or arts, Macs generally seem to do better. I have a PC but I am a statistics and computer science major. For my majors, it's kind of whatever you want to get, but i think PCs you get more for your money.
Not sure if every campus has this but mine has a quiz on the tech website that tells you what the best option for your major is. Im just starting my 3rd year in the CS program but thus far I've never noticed a significant disadvantage to having a PC.
Winrar for 3 gb machine. Total extraction progress is displayed for 7z multivolume archives. Previously WinRAR issued such error only after creating the first RAR volume.
Like other people said, to get into some servers you dont have to download additional programs but for my setup i have PuTTY right on my desktop. I click the link and log in.
I don't really see a couple extra clicks as a big deal. But thats just me. My prof who has worked in the private CS industry for 15 years before becoming a prof uses a Mac, but at least 75% of the students has PC. I could be missing something but I honestly think it's just personal preference. It depends on what field you go into. The split I've seen from people in my field is Mac and Thinkpads.
I'm a Thinkpad user myself. The OS system on Macs is Unix based which is helpful in most programming related field. On the other hand, Thinkpads are known to be durable and they run can Windows, which is a necessary for some specific softwares (e.g. Of course, you can always dual boot.
I think most of the general population chooses Mac cause it's trending and they really don't need anything more in terms of computing or applications. I am not a student, but I have a Mac and a PC laptop and I see differences.
The Mac is a 4 year old 13 inch air with maybe 8GB ram, the PC is a quad core processor with 32 GB ram. However, when I turn on the Mac, it's on immediately, open a program, it pops right up. With the PC there is the wait for the program to load, and the response time is a bit sluggish compared to the Mac, even with a better processor. However what the Mac won't do is run my work programs well. As a result, the Mac is almost like netbook - i travel with it, use it for word processing, and surfing the net.
