I have a MacPro 1,1 modded to be a 2,1, running El Capitan (10.11.4 as I post). I installed the Nvidia web drivers a while ago and noticed that if I switch back to the native Apple drivers I seem to get colour inversion, it looks like red and blue are swapped.
Switching back to the Nvidia web driver and all is fine. I ignored it, but the 10.11.4 update just reverted me back to the Apple drivers and I get colour inversion (blue-faced people - it's actually amusing - does anyone remember the Surfs?!). Anyway, a quick trip to System Preferences > Nvidia Driver Manager, check for updates, yes, install, reboot, all is well again. However, it has prompted me to post these questions here: • Is anyone else seeing this behaviour (or is it just me)? • Would anyone like to hazard a guess to what might be causing this? Boot Camp with Windows 10 is fine.
I think I have El Capitan installed on another partition with no additional software (just Apple's install). Thanks guys, The 10/30-bit thing sounds like the most likely culprit. It was interesting to read up on it ☺ The good news is that the issue has gone away (so it probably was 'just me').
The bad news is that I have very little idea how or what fixed it. I booted into Windows10 (Boot Camp). Rebuilt Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan on a spare disk (mainly testing the 10.11.4 update).
Booting back into my main El Capitan partition with Mac OS X Native selected now has 'normal' colour. Re-enabled, the Nvidia web drivers.
It seems I can now switch back and forth. Maybe the 10.11.4 compatible web driver update from Nvidia did it, maybe booting into Windows did it, maybe it was something else. I'll just put it down to an 'undocumented feature' Logged.

No – Install the drivers Yes – Ensure you have correct drivers, full power and no hardware faults. I went to the Nvidia Website, found my graphics cards, but there is no OSX driver?
All the drivers for the Nvidia cards come under the Nvidia Quadro K5000. The drivers are not card specific but OSX version specific. Where can I find the drivers for my Nvidia Card?
All the drivers for each version of OSX / MacOS can be found at the link below. How do I know what driver is the one for me? The driver is specific to the build number of the operating system you are running. Just looking for a driver for version 10.10.5 might not get you what you need. How to reveal your OS X build number: • Click the Apple logo to the far left of the menu bar.
• Click ‘About this Mac.’ • Click ‘Version XX.XX.X’ to reveal build number Once you have your build number, you can see exactly what driver you need. If you visit the link above you can see each version and build split with the driver available. I have installed my Nvidia card, connected all the cables and installed the drivers but it won’t boot? Firstly, check you have installed the correct version of the driver. A common mistake is to install the latest driver and not the correct one for your build of OSX.
Old versions available = Download old versions of the program. Vlc nightly for mac. Portable version available = Download the portable version and you can just extract the files and run the program without installation. Download portable version = Portable/Standalone version meaning that no installation is required, just extract the files to a folder and run directly.
If that doesn’t work check your card is supported in the version of OSX you are running, double check you are getting enough power to the card, and then last resort is check for faulty hardware.
