Macbook '08 here, and the answer is yes. It won't run fast, but it will run. Make sure you've got the right java loaded (I had to downgrade java i think to the 5 point something — there was a tutorial on it way back when, should be on youtube, just google it).

Your laptop will whine like a bitch in heat whenever you play minecraft, but it will still allow you to play. (the integrated graphics card is what the fuss is all about). I have to run the mod optifine and change all the settings to the absolute lowest (tiny render distance etc.) while also being very conscious of what I build (don't try building a calculator with redstone) so that I can get my 15 fps.
