Install Elixir For Mac

Ok, so I'm trying to learn Elixir as my first programming language and I'm having difficulty running programs via the terminal. I installed Elixir and Erlang using Brew, checked the versions and that install was correct, and I downloaded the pre-compiled Zip folder and added this string to the file Elixir.mix.tasks.profile.Fprof.beam in user/documents/elixir/precompiled: export PATH='$PATH:/path/to/elixir/bin' I then created a file called simple.exs in the PATH user/documents/elixir/learning/ that contained: IO.puts 'Hello world from Elixir' I then opened terminal and typed: $ elixir simple.exs Terminal returns: No file named simple.exs Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. I may have done everything wrong as this is my first project and I'm just learning programming.
