I dont have a mac os 8 machine, and the earliest system my iMac can run is 9.1 so I can't test for myself. However, maybe try making a mac os 9 or 10 disc to see it it boots from that, but not actually installing the system. I do have working os 9 and 10 disks, and still have my original media for my iMacs. If you cant get a bootable disk going at all, perhaps someone could make you working system 8 disks and mail them to you? Is there a version of that tutorial specifically for the G3?

It didn't really work for me. I couldn't get it to access any files on the USB. The USB did show up in open firmware and I thought I copied the path exactly.

Has someone else done this on a G3? Is the path something like '/pci@f2000000/usb@19/disk@1'? Or maybe the reason it didn't work is I didn't have a dmg and so couldn't do a restore?
